 Dear CPH.
A wonderful experience! Vocabulary and grammar was presented through conversation, and explicit instruction. Instruction was geared toward survival Spanish, as well as grammar and areas of interest. Instructors are responsive to the needs and interest of the student.
The homestay experience was highly conducive to learning and practicing Spanish. My familia tica made me feel right at home.
We are able to travel around the country on the weekends- volcanoes, rainforest, cloud forests, hot springs, coffee farm and o coral reef!

CPH is the perfect place to learn to speak Spanish. My time here was very short, only a week and a half, but in a week and a half, I´ve learned far more than I would have in a year of study in the U.S. I am still far from fluency, but my time in Santa Ana has given me a solid start.
Yo no voy a olvidar a mi familia tica. Toda mi familia fue muy amable y muy paciente conmigo y mi español. Todos en la familia fueron buenos profesores por las tardes.

The 2 weeks that I have spent in Costa Rica have been incredible. I enjoyed myself at all times except when I was sick, I and learned an immense amount. I can’t believe how nice then people are here, specially my family and the people at CPH. I have been swept off my feet with kindness. I also can’t believe how much my Spanish has progressed. My first day in Santa Ana I couldn’t understand or say barely anything. After only one week I could have normal conversations with people. Learning a different language is extremely fun and exciting. My teacher Lydia was a superb teacher, and the 4 hours of class flew by each day. All the other people at CPH were patient and also helped me learn. I met very interesting and special people at CPH. I have had a wonderful experience so far in Costa Rica and I am excited about improving my Spanish and studying biology in the beautiful, lush, tropical forests of the country.

Everyone at CPH was very helpful and friendly. My teacher, Salvador, taught me a lot. Being in a class room learning how to use the different verb tenses more speak correctly really helped with daily conversations in my Tico household and with getting around town.

CPH arranged for me to spend some time in a nearby clinic observing the local doctor. I really enjoyed working with him and I learned a lot about how medicine is practiced in Costa Rica.
Another thing that I enjoyed about CPH was that it was a relatively small school, with few students, and students from all over the world. I noticed that other schools are filled with many Americans, which fosters more English speaking than Spanish speaking.

I liked the small town Santa Ana where CPH is located. It is in a beautiful setting, quiet, with a home town feel. A nice change from the crowed streets of San José.
The only thing that I would change would be that I would spend more than just 2 weeks here.

Thanks for everything .

Last year my wife and I moved to Costa Rica CPH was chosen by my employer, Intel, to provide language training. CPH accommodates my schedule by providing instruction at the office during the lunch hour. The teachers provide instruction using every day conversation techniques that I can put to immediate use. I have found my teachers knowledgeable and professional. I would recommend CPH to anyone seeking conversational Spanish instruction in Costa Rica business a pleasure.

Many people come to Costa Rica for its people, its warm climate. Some people come to learn Spanish. One can find any number of language institutes all over the country. However, none of them can compare to CPH located in rural Santa Ana.

At the initial intake interview with Yamileth, you immediately feel comfortable and welcome. The teachers at CPH have been training Peace Corps volunteers for a number of years. They quickly identify and recognize areas which need to be reinforced. The classes are geared to your level and lessons center around your profession.

In am learning vocabulary and expressions I use on a daily basis in my job. You receive quality individual attention and can readily see what areas you need to improve. I have taken many Spanish classes, but CPH provides the best Spanish language instruction in the country!

I, along with my wife, Elaine and our two children, Rachel (age 9) and Sarah (age 7), are volunteers here in Costa Rica. We are Habitat for Humanity International. We will be helping less fortunate people to organize themselves and build houses for three years. When we arrived here, my Spanish was little more than "hello" (hola), "good-bye" (adios), "please" (por favor), and "thank you" (gracias). After about three months of language classes at CPH, I can honestly say I now can carry on a very credible conversation with people who can speak only Spanish. I can speak in present, past and future tense and a few of the other more complex verb tenses. I have a strong basis to continue progressing on my own.

As important as it is to learn the language of the people we'll be working with, I feel it is equally important to get some cultural training also. Here is also where the teachers at CHP excel. They shared their knowledge of history, culture and customs with pride and humor. They knew where to go and where not to go, and when the best time to go was; whether buying or sightseeing. Also, the teachers grew up in different Latinamerican countries and shared their differences. Learning what certain gestures mean can be important when conversing. This I also learned. Most important of all, I feel that when a program of learning has an environment that is varied, challenging and fun; it will be successful. Those of us at Habitat, who have learned the language and customs of the Spanish culture at CPH, know that they accomplish this well.

After attending the Language and Cross-Cultural School (CPH) for approximately three months, I am very pleased with the language skills I have obtained and I fell confident recommending CPH to other interested students. I have always looked forward to attending class. The large campus, the classroom style cabanas and the competent instructors made for a positive learning experience. My three hour, daily Spanish lesson seemed to move at an agreeable pace: I was never bored and I never felt at a loss.

It is quite evident that the teaching staff is well versed in linguistics as well as in the more traditional and eclectic forms of educational instruction. My teacher was adept at using such teaching techniques as situation reinforcement, skill building and guided conversation. It was also quite clear that the teaching staff worked as a team to introduce the Latino culture, reinforce pronunciation, and present new words. In conclusion, I will remember the many laughs I had with staff and the ease at which I acquired a new skill. I do not hesitate to endorse such a school.

I started classes with you eight months ago and have come a long way since then. I couldn't speak or understand one word in Spanish when I began. Now I can hold a conversation and actually receive compliments on my pronunciation. I know how to speak in preset, future, past perfect, imperfect, conditional and began to work on the subjunctive just before I left.

The entire staff at CPH was helpful to me. They all made an effort to talk to me and get to know me and help me learn. I worked with Trini the most. She prepared personal exercises for me to practice and often asked for my feedback and suggestions. The group exercises were useful and were fun ways to build vocabulary and meet other students. I learned how to cook some Costa Rican dishes and my salsa dancing is coming along nicely! Now I only hope to retain what I learned with you and teach my husband some basic Spanish. Thank you for everything,

Pura Vida.

Before returning home this weekend I want to take this opportunity to tell you how happy I am to have chose C.P.H as the school to pursue my Spanish studies this summer. The first thing that strikes a student on their arrival at C.P.H is the genuine welcome and warmth of hospitality which they receive from All of the teachers and one feels almost immediately part of one large family. After this the courtesy and professionalism displayed individually by each of the school's teachers especially in their manner of teaching is second to none. I was especially impressed by the informality of the classes, the ease by which the teachers managed to convey a grammatical point while trying to steer away from too much grammar. Also the willingness of the including the daily so many different and varied topics including the daily life and culture of their respective countries, in order that could increase my vocabulary proved invaluable.

CPH is the third Spanish immersion course I have participated in and I do not hesitate to recommend it highly to anyone serious about improving their language skills. As a Spanish bilingual teacher fluent in Portuguese, I came to CPH with very specific needs.

The instructors were adept in tailoring my classes in order to address my concerns, while building on my strengths. The approach is both individualized and holistic, emphasizing the application of grammar and vocabulary to authentic and relevant situations.

My homestay not only reinforced my Spanish conversation, but allowed me to experience the tico culture and family life. I felt welcomed and completely at home from the moment I walked through their door.

After only two weeks, I leave Santa Ana with more confidence in my Spanish, many new friends, and plans to return soon.
